In-home companionship · Sutherland Shire & St George

We don't send carers.
We send company.

Warm, familiar support at home. Meals cooked and eaten together. The house kept. A shower helped with, gently. The pharmacy run done. All delivered by one companion who is genuinely pleased to walk through the door — and keeps coming back.

A day with Vita

Care is not a list of tasks. It's the shape of someone's day.

Every household is different, and you choose the hours. But this is what a Vita day tends to look like — and, since this year, how far into the evening it can now run.

9:00Morning

Kettle on before anything else

We arrive, open the curtains, and put the kettle on. Tablets prompted, breakfast made and eaten at the table together. The first ten minutes are conversation, not clipboard — which is why the rest of the visit works.

10:00The house

Quietly kept, never made a performance of

Washing on, beds made, bathroom wiped down, floors done, fridge checked for anything past its date. Done alongside you if you like doing it, and discreetly if you'd rather it just be finished.

11:30Personal care

A shower, with dignity intact

Help in and out, hair washed, moisturiser, dressed in something you chose. Unhurried, by the same person each week.

12:30Lunch

Cooked in your kitchen, from your fridge

Real food to your own taste, not a reheated tray. And eaten with someone across the table — the thing most reliably associated with actually finishing a meal.

2:00Out

Out of the house, on purpose

The shops at Miranda, the chemist, the podiatrist, the club, the cemetery, a walk along Port Hacking. We drive, come in with you, and carry the bags.

4:30Handover

And this is where we used to say goodbye

Most in-home care stops here, at the exact hour the day gets hardest — the light goes, the house empties, and the long evening starts. From this year, it doesn't have to.

Our services

Five things, all done by the same person.

Not five separate visitors from five separate rosters. One companion who knows where the good teacups are kept.

Signature service

Companionship

Shared meals, walks, outings, conversation, cards, the crossword, reading together, photo albums, the footy. Someone to tell the story to. This is the service the other four exist to protect — because a clean house nobody visits is still an empty house.

At home

Meal preparation & shared dining

Fresh home-style cooking with the groceries on hand, plus a standing offer to sit down and eat it with you.

At home

Cleaning & laundry

Gentle, dignified upkeep. Washing, beds, bathrooms, floors — kept on top of rather than blitzed once a month.

Personal

Showering & personal care

Assistance with respect and warmth, at your pace, by the person you already know. Never rushed, never a stranger.

Out and about

Errands & everyday help

Pharmacy runs, grocery trips, appointments driven to and attended, forms wrestled with, and light jobs around the house.

Packages & rates

Published prices. No joining fee, no exit fee.

We publish our prices so you can work out the cost of your week before you enquire. Choose a weekly package or book hours as needed.

Support at Home

Companionship, social support, domestic assistance and respite all sit inside your package. We invoice your provider directly, or you claim it back if you self-manage.

NDIS

We work with self-managed participants. For plan- or agency-managed arrangements we quote at the NDIS price limit and tell you honestly what that covers.

Private

No assessment, no waiting list, no funding required. Many families start privately and sort the paperwork afterwards.

Vita After Hours

The hours nobody else covers.

The hard part of being alone was never the middle of a Tuesday. It's the long evening, the empty Sunday, and the 2am when sleep won't return. So we stopped finishing at five.

You can't roster away old age. But nobody should have to sit through the evening on their own.

A night with us

Familiar company, right through the evening.

What actually happens, hour by hour.

4:30

Arrival

We come in before the light goes

Curtains drawn, lamps on, heating up. Arriving before dusk rather than after it is where every shift starts.

5:30

Dinner

A hot meal, eaten with someone

Cooked in your kitchen, from your own fridge, to your own taste. Then eaten at the table together — not left on a tray.

7:00

The evening

The part that isn't care at all

Cards, the crossword, the football, a call to the grandkids, the photo albums, a walk to the end of the street. Company, in the ordinary sense.

9:00

Settling

Safely into bed

Medication prompt, a wash or shower if that's in the plan, water by the bed, nightlight on, back door checked. Then a short message to you.

10:00

Sleepover

Someone in the house

Our companion sleeps in the spare room and stays until morning. Most nights nothing happens at all — which is exactly what you're paying for.

2:00

If they wake

No one gets up alone

If they wake, someone wakes with them. If something's wrong, we act and you hear from us immediately.

6:30

First light

Handed over, not just left

Breakfast, curtains open, tablets out, house tidy. Then a written handover, so you know exactly how the night went.

Four ways to book after hours

After-hours support that fits real life.

One evening a week. Or fourteen nights straight.

Plainly

What we are, and what we aren't.

A companionship service — particularly one that works evenings and stays overnight — should be completely unambiguous about its scope.

What we do

  • ✓ Companionship, conversation and genuine interest
  • ✓ Cooking, dishes, laundry and household upkeep
  • ✓ Personal care and showering where it's in the plan
  • ✓ Medication prompting and a written handover
  • ✓ Driving to outings, appointments and family
  • ✓ Staying overnight so the house isn't empty

What we don't

  • — Clinical or nursing care — wounds, injections, catheters
  • — Administering medication, as opposed to prompting it
  • — Any service of an intimate, romantic or sexual nature
  • — Handling money, banking, cards or legal documents
  • — Two-person transfers or heavy lifting without equipment
  • — Accepting gifts, tips, bequests or loans. Ever.
A client with three experienced Vita companions

Our companions

Chosen for maturity. Paid properly, so they stay.

Our companions are selected for empathy, life experience, plain good judgement and their ability to build easy, respectful relationships.

Turnover is the enemy of companionship. A stranger every fortnight isn't a relationship, it's a roster. The entire model is built to keep one familiar person coming back to each client and their family.

Police-checked & screened

National police check plus NDIS Worker Screening.

First aid & CPR

Current certification, refreshed every year.

Dementia training

Including sundowning and evening agitation.

Fully insured

Public liability, professional indemnity and business car cover.

Questions families actually ask

The practical things families need to know.

Clear answers, before you enquire.

How quickly can someone start?+

Usually within a week for regular daytime visits, within 72 hours for an evening, and within 24 hours after a hospital discharge, which we treat as urgent. The first hour in the home is free and commits you to nothing.

Will it be the same person every time?+

Yes. We roster the same companion to the same household. Consistency is the centre of our model, with a carefully introduced backup only when needed.

They say they don't want a carer in the house.+

That is common. We begin with company, a cup of tea and whatever feels useful that day. The free first hour lets everyone meet without pressure or commitment.

What happens if something goes wrong overnight?+

If they wake, someone wakes with them. If something is wrong, we act, follow the agreed plan, and contact you immediately.

Can we use Support at Home or NDIS funding?+

Yes. Eligible companionship, social support, domestic assistance and respite can sit within Support at Home. We also work with self-managed NDIS participants and quote at price limits for other management types.

Why do evenings and weekends cost more?+

We pay our companions properly for unsociable hours and guarantee minimum visit lengths, so experienced people stay and the same person can keep returning.

Which suburbs do you cover?+

We cover the Sutherland Shire and St George, including Caringbah, Cronulla, Miranda, Gymea, Sylvania, Engadine, Menai, Hurstville and surrounding suburbs.
